Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: Does she stand by her statement on the new mathematics programmes “Every single child in this country will have access to one of these programmes – schools can choose – there will be a number of providers they can choose.”; and if so, does "every child" include those in charter schools?

Hon Erica Stanford: Charter schools will have greater flexibility but this is balanced with higher accountability for outcomes. I expect that many charter schools will choose to use a structured maths approach given that they will be measured by outcomes for their students. Specific questions relating to policy for charter schools are the responsibility of the Associate Minister of Education.
