52410 (2025). Rachel Boyack to the Associate Minister of Agriculture: What advice, if any, has he sought regarding the regulations of zoos in New Zealand, following reports that seven elderly big cats at Whangārei's Kamo Wildlife Sanctuary will be euthanised this week?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: I am receiving regular updates regarding the euthanasia of lions at Kamo Wildlife Sanctuary. The Ministry for Primary Industries has advised operators must meet standards and requirements set out in the Animal Welfare Act, Standard for Zoo Containment Facilities and the Code of Welfare: Zoos.
