52378 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: What, if anything, does achieving "equitable outcomes for Māori students" mean, and how, if at all, is removing a requirement for school boards to give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi enabling that goal?

Hon Erica Stanford: This requirement has been in the Education and Training Act since 2020. It means that Māori students should have the opportunity, and the support, to achieve the same standard of educational achievement as non-Māori students. I consider better outcomes are more likely to be achieved by the Crown providing school boards with greater clarity on the steps they are expected to take
