52344 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: What, if anything is the Minister doing to address data from TALIS that the biggest cause of stress for New Zealand teachers is government changes, and that only 14% of teachers believe the government values them?

Hon Erica Stanford: The Ministry of Education is supporting teachers through curriculum, assessment and aromatawai changes by providing clear, ongoing guidance, resources and professional learning through 2026 to 2028 and beyond. Support includes: • Four half days in 2026 and 2027 for in-school Professional Learning and Development (PLD) on the new curriculum • Four days of Maths PLD for 0-8 schools over 2025 and 2026 • PLD from Term 1 2026 for teachers of Years 9 and 10 English and Maths, and Te Reo Rangatira and Pāngarau • PLD for other learning areas and wāhanga ako from late 2026 • PLD for principals and tumuaki through 2026-2028 to support them to lead the changes • Curriculum Advisers in all Ministry regions to provide individualised and ongoing support to schools and kura, as required. • Further details are available at: tahurangi.education.govt.nz/implementation-supports The Government is also helping teachers feel valued by funding $53 million in Budget 2025 to cover registration and practising certificate fees through to 2028.
