52248 (2024). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Police
Written Question
Published date: 03 Sep 2024
52248 (2024). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Police: How many Police hours have been used in response family harm incidents since December 2022 and 31 July 2023, by month and district, if any?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that when Police communication centres receive a request for service about family harm incidents, an event is entered in the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. CAD events can only have one code type, and Police practice is to code the most serious risk or alleged offence. Family harm events are usually coded as 5F. Family harm may be a factor in other CAD events but these are not included in this response.
I refer the Member to the attached table that shows the total amount of time spent (calculated from the time the officer arrives at the address to the time the event is closed) at family harm events between 1 December 2022 and 31 July 2023 attended by police by month and scene district. For context, the number of attended family harm events and median attendance time per event are also provided.
Please note that while the numbers provided are of the attendance time recorded in CAD, there may be further time spent by officers after the event is closed, such as writing Family Harm reports, follow up by the Family Harm Team, and connecting with partner agencies
