52242 (2025). Lan Pham to the Minister for Biosecurity: How much money, if any, has been spent on Bird Flu readiness in the 2024/25 financial year so far?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: I am advised that the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is leading HPAI H5N1 readiness, with work also undertaken by the Department of Conservation, the Ministry of Health and Health New Zealand. The HPAI readiness work programme at MPI is funded out of the baseline. The work includes surveillance, laboratory personnel undertaking diagnostic testing, staff supporting trade, operational response planning, communications and policy.
