52240 (2025). Lan Pham to the Minister for Biosecurity: How many FTE employees, if any, have been working on Bird Flu readiness in the 2024/25 financial year?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: I am advised that the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is leading HPAI H5N1 readiness, with work also undertaken by the Department of Conservation, the Ministry of Health and Health New Zealand. The employees working on HPAI readiness at MPI are drawn from resources across teams to work on HPAI readiness. This includes surveillance, laboratory personnel undertaking diagnostic testing, staff supporting trade, operational response planning, communications and policy.
