52231 (2025). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister for Biosecurity: Does he agree with conservationist Brad Windust who said staff cuts at MPI have made the situation of responding to the yellow-legged hornet outbreak harder, and if not, why not?
Hon Andrew Hoggard: I am advised by the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) that sufficient resources are available and being deployed to manage this response, with surveillance efforts including traps placed across key suburbs and extensive public engagement through markets, mail drops, and media.
Daily stakeholder updates are being provided to industry groups, iwi, and government partners, while a Technical Advisory Group of national and international experts is guiding the response strategy.
