52211 (2024). Tamatha Paul to the Associate Minister of Housing: What are the reasons that somebody may be stood down from receiving the Emergency Housing Grant?
Hon Tama Potaka: I am advised by the Ministry of Social Development (the Ministry) that clients need to comply with the emergency housing responsibilities to be eligible for an Emergency Housing Grant. These responsibilities are:
• engage with support services, if a referral has been made by the Ministry
• make reasonable efforts to obtain other housing, including accessing other sources of housing assistance or other assistance
• pay the emergency housing contribution by the date or dates determined by the Ministry.
If a client does not meet their responsibilities without a good and sufficient reason, they will be issued a warning. If a client does not meet their responsibilities without a good and sufficient reason a second time, they will be issued a second warning. If a client does not meet their responsibilities without a good and sufficient reason for a third time, they will not be able to get emergency housing for 13 weeks (non-entitlement period).
A client can ask for a review of the decision to issue a non-entitlement period.
