52199 (2024). Tamatha Paul to the Associate Minister of Housing: How will people in emergency housing prove their need for emergency housing if asked?
Hon Tama Potaka: I am advised by the Ministry of Social Development (the Ministry) that the ability for Case Managers to request further information is being introduced when there is insufficient information to determine the client’s eligibility to an Emergency Housing Grant. The type of evidence requested is unique to the applicant’s situation. Examples of evidence that might be required for someone who was evicted from their private tenancy could be a 90-day notice, text messages from their landlord, or a Tenancy Tribunal order. The Ministry will only require information where it is necessary to determine the outcome of an application and reasonable for the applicant to provide.
