52176 (2024). Tamatha Paul to the Minister of Corrections: What, if any, plans are in place to ensure people who relied on Te Tuinga Whānau services continue to have access to local support?
Hon Mark Mitchell: My office received emails in April and May 2024 from Corrections officials which advised that Corrections suspended a contract with Te Tuinga Whānau Support Services Trust (Te Tuinga) after being advised by Te Kāhui Kāhu that Te Tuinga’s accreditation had been suspended. This paused Corrections’ contract with Te Tuinga until such time that they satisfied Te Kāhui Kāhu in addressing the actions specified. Corrections subsequently stopped referrals and transitioned the people that received these services to other providers. I am further advised that Corrections terminated the contract on 25 July 2024 and discussions are ongoing to procure a replacement. This is also my response to WPQ 52191 (2024).
