Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Statistics: How many staff employed at the ministries, agencies and departments for which the Minister is responsible have signed non-disclosure agreements since 27 November 2023, listed by agency, role title and the date the agreement was signed, if any?

Hon Andrew Bayly: I am advised that section 42 of the Data and Statistics Act 2022 requires all Stats NZ employees to complete a certificate of confidentiality before commencing employment. The declaration is a lifetime agreement to keep data confidential. Additionally, there have been 11 confidential settlements between Stats NZ and staff in the requested period. I am advised that disclosure of any identifying detail, including role title, would be a breach of the law as these are formal settlements under s149 of the Employment Relations Act 2000.
