51947 (2024). Ingrid Leary to the Minister for Sport and Recreation: Does the Minister agree with Alan Walker, who wrote to the New Zealand Herald about athlete Aimee Fisher, that given the high-pressure environment athletes operate in, it is crucial that we ensure proper mental health support is available; if so, what, if anything, will he do to address this?
Hon Chris Bishop: Yes. High Performance Sport NZ is investing $7.4m over the next three years into wellbeing specific initiatives. The Wellbeing Programme was developed as part of this in consultation with athletes, coaches, and several National Sports Organisations. Every athlete identified on the high performance pathway has immediate access to quality psychological services that are responsive to individual needs. This is regardless of location or level on the pathway.
