Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for Ethnic Communities: What contributions, if any, has the Minister or any office they are responsible for made to inform the Governments position on the upcoming United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) in its 23rd and 24th periodic UN reviews by date and title?

Hon Mark Mitchell: The Minister of Justice is leading the delegation to New Zealand’s review of its 23rd and 24th reports under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD) in Geneva on 25-26 November. I am advised that the Ministry for Ethnic Communities (the Ministry) has provided feedback during agency consultations related to CERD on two occasions: • On 15 July 2025, the Ministry provided feedback to the Ministry of Justice on the List of Themes from the Committee. Specifically, the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Christchurch Masijidian, social cohesion and belonging and International Decade for People of African decent. • On 15 October 2025, the Ministry provided feedback to the Ministry of Justice on the CERD review. Specifically, combatting racial stereotypes and situation of Māori women Pacific women and women belonging to other ethnic groups.
