Teanau Tuiono to the Minister of Police: What contributions, if any, has the Minister or any office they are responsible for made to inform the Governments position on the upcoming United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) in its 23rd and 24th periodic UN reviews by date and title?

Hon Mark Mitchell: A New Zealand delegation will be attending the review of its 23rd and 24th reports under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD) in Geneva on 25-26 November. I am advised that, like several other agencies, New Zealand Police has been consulted by the Ministry of Justice as part of preparations for the upcoming United Nations (UN) examination. By way of example, Police officials have been sent relevant sections of intended material for the New Zealand delegation which will attend the UN examination in late November 2025. I am advised Police contributions thus far have principally been by email, with relevant content – such as updated statistics on the diversity profile of the New Zealand Police workforce – and comments on draft delegation material being exchanged progressively with Ministry of Justice counterparts since July 2025. A senior Police official also participated in an online meeting on 10 September 2025, convened by the Secretary for Justice, regarding the upcoming UN examination.
