51716 (2025). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister for Social Development and Employment
Written Question
Published date: 13 Nov 2025
51716 (2025). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister for Social Development and Employment: How many people have been placed into work by Ministry of Social Development and Employment have had their job terminated by their employer in the last 18 months, if any?
Hon Louise Upston: I am advised by the Ministry of Social Development (the Ministry) that unless people in the situation the Member describes then subsequently return to the benefit, the Ministry would not be aware of their employment being terminated.
For those in this situation who do return to the benefit, I am advised that this information would be held on individual client files and would not be centrally collated. The Ministry is unable to provide the information sought by the Member within a written parliamentary question timeframe as it would take substantial effort and require the Ministry to divert personnel from their core duties. In accordance with Speaker’s Ruling 210/6, I consider that the time, and hence the expense, of answering this question within this timeframe is not in the public interest.
