Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: Have there been changes in his position from the paper SC11-DW05 that was prepared by New Zealand scientists, submitted by New Zealand to the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation Scientific Committee in 2023 and recommended by that committee to the SPRFMO Commission (para 132 (d) and (e))?

Hon Shane Jones: The 2023 paper and Scientific Committee pre-date the current Government. New Zealand government officials and NIWA scientists are working on papers to be submitted to the 2024 Scientific Committee of the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO). I will take advice from officials after the Scientific Committee on potential amendments to propose to ensure the appropriateness of the spatial protection regime at the 2025 SPRFMO Commission.
