51643 (2025). Camilla Belich to the Prime Minister: How many, if any agencies for which the Minister is responsible have reduced staff numbers since 2023 while maintaining or increasing their total office space holdings?

Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: In my capacity as Prime Minister, I am the responsible minister for the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC). The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was a departmental agency hosted by DPMC and transitioned to the Department of Internal Affairs effective 25 September 2025. I am advised that the staffing levels at DPMC have fluctuated due to the number of time-limited functions docking in and out of DPMC (eg, Child Wellbeing and Poverty Reduction Unit, Health and Disability System Review Transition Unit, COVID-19 Response Group, coordination of the Government response to the terrorist attack on Christchurch mosques, Cyclone Recovery Unit etc). The floor space for the 2024/25, 2023/24 and 2022/23 financial years are set out in the attached appendix.
