51641 (2025). Camilla Belich to the Prime Minister: What is the total floor area and annual cost of all office space currently leased or owned by each agency for which the Minister is responsible, and what proportion of that space is currently occupied by staff?

Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: In my capacity as the Prime Minister, I am the responsible minister for the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC). The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was a departmental agency hosted by DPMC and transitioned to the Department of Internal Affairs effective 25 September 2025. I am advised that as at 30 June 2025, DPMC occupied a total of 3,428 square metres, including space in the Beehive which is not leased. In addition, DPMC occupies Government Houses in Auckland and Wellington. NEMA occupied a total of 1,785 square metres at year end. I am advised that as at 30 June 2025, neither DPMC nor NEMA have entered into any new lease agreements for floor space. The annual cost per square metre for the 2024/25, 2023/24 and 2022/23 financial years are set out in the attached appendix.
