51619 (2025). Camilla Belich to the Minister of Police: What is the total floor area and annual cost of all office space currently leased or owned by each agency for which the Minister is responsible, and what proportion of that space is currently occupied by staff?

Hon Mark Mitchell: Corrected reply: I am advised that Police lease approximately 141,020 square metres of property at an annual cost of $36.110 million and own a further 216,094 square metres. This excludes residential and telecommunications sites. Police properties are used for a range of purposes including office accommodation, vehicle space and other Police uses such as custody, Police dog spaces, interview spaces, records and equipment storage or training venues. As such, not all space is intended for staff occupancy. While Police does not centrally record the proportion of total space currently occupied by staff, I am advised that estimating this would require considerable effort to assess usage across the entire Police portfolio. The time and associated cost in obtaining this information are not, in my view, justifiable.
