51511 (2025). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: What assurances, if any, did he seek from the Samoan Government that the $6 million payment from New Zealand to Samoa as compensation for the Manawanui sinking would be directed towards local communities impacted by the disaster?
Rt Hon Winston Peters: The Government of Samoa is managing the overall response and leads on compensation matters. New Zealand made the ST$10 million payment to the Government of Samoa. It was agreed that requests for financial assistance by Samoan Citizens would be referred to the Government of Samoa for consideration and settlement.
