50821 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: What, if anything, is the Government doing to support teachers with Long Covid or long-term illness following a viral infection?
Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education that schools as the employer are responsible for managing employee sick leave in accordance with the provisions in the collective agreements. These provisions offer meaningful support to teachers managing illness including long term COVID-19 effects or other illnesses, by allowing extended time off without financial penalty. The ability to accrue sick leave without a fixed limit, allows teachers with sufficient leave to take longer paid absences for recovery.
