Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for the Environment: Further to replies to Question for Oral No. 11 on Oct 15, does the Minister agree with the statement that 'any suggestion that we're going to hollow out industry, including fisheries, to meet this dreamlike conception of how dangerous climate change is' and if so why, and if not why not?

Hon Penny Simmonds: The Our Marine Environment 2025 report shows evidence that climate change is affecting primary industries including fisheries. By investing in emerging technologies such as those highlighted in my response to written parliamentary question 50762 (2025) and focusing on adaptation, such as developing the first National Adaptation Framework, the Government is supporting primary industries to continue to thrive in the changing environment. New Zealand is committed to playing its part in the global effort to reduce the impacts of climate change, including in the marine environment. I also refer the member to the Minister of Climate Change's response to written parliamentary question 49795 (2025).
