50711 (2025). Hon Marama Davidson to the Minister of Corrections: In which regions have prisoners on remand been able to access offence and non-offence related rehabilitation programmes since December 2024?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that Corrections’ rehabilitation and reintegration services support people to address the causes of their offending, build positive relationships, and gain valuable skills that help them change their lives for the better and reduce their likelihood of re-offending. People in prison may also be provided with health services, cultural support services, educational opportunities, vocational and employment training, wrap-around whānau support, and transitional accommodation support.
I am further advised that prisoners on remand have been able to access offence and non-offence related rehabilitation programmes since December 2024 in the following regions:
• Auckland
• Canterbury
• East Coast
• Manukau
• Otago/Southland
• Taranaki/Whanganui/Manawatū
• Waikato
• Wellington.
