Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister for Children: Does the Minister stand by her statement "I don't like our young people being in care and protection but what I would also say, is that we can't close down something without a solution” if so, what solutions, if any, has the Minister considered to close down Oranga Tamariki, if at all?

Hon Karen Chhour: Yes. My priority as Minister for Children is the safety and wellbeing of children under the care of Oranga Tamariki. I have also been clear that Oranga Tamariki must continue to devolve funding and the provision of care and protection services to the wider community.
