50334 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: How, if at all, does the Minister intend to respond to the more than 50,000 signatories to a petition calling on the Government to keep Outdoor Education as a general subject?
Hon Erica Stanford: The concerns over Outdoor Education are unfounded. In the refreshed senior curriculum, Outdoor Education will be a standalone subject. Students will be able to study Outdoor Education in its own right, and teachers will not have to use a mixture of physical education (PE) and outdoor recreation standards to assess it, as they currently do. The subject is being developed in partnership with industry experts to make sure students receive high-value learning experiences. The strengthened subject will offer clear, high-quality pathways into jobs, further training, and lifelong skills. Outdoor Education is also being strengthened in the Year 1-10 curriculum. Outdoor Education is a valued and relevant part of the curriculum, and we’re committed to ensuring it continues to grow and thrive.
