Camilla Belich to the Minister for the Environment: What assessment, if any, has been undertaken of how a merger involving the Ministry for the Environment, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, and parts of the Department of Internal Affairs could affect the Ministry for the Environment’s ability to fulfil its statutory environmental protection and policy functions?

Hon Penny Simmonds: The Public Service Commissioner has been looking at the whole of the Public Service in terms of the potential to group or reconfigure the current agencies in a way that will set them up for the future. No decisions have been made yet.
