50124 (2024). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Finance: How many staff, if any, were employed in the Minister's departments, if any, on 1 July 2024 that worked on climate change adaptation, categorised by work on corporate/organisational climate adaptation or national climate change adaptation or both?
Hon Nicola Willis: A number of Treasury staff work in areas where they may periodically engage in climate change adaptation matters, but the Treasury does not hold detailed data on this. As at 1 July 2024, the number of staff in Treasury’s Climate Change team who were specifically dedicated to national climate change adaptation was approximately 6.4 full time equivalent (FTE) staff. This included some additional resourcing deployed from within the Treasury to support the current Finance and Expenditure Committee inquiry on climate change adaptation. There were no staff working on corporate/organisational climate adaptation.
Climate change adaptation was a component of the core role of three RBNZ staff on 1 July 2024, both in an organisational sense and with respect to understanding the adaptation status of the broader financial system and economy of New Zealand. Other staff were involved as appropriate on tasks related to adaptation, such as climate-related stress testing work and Financial Stability Reporting undertaken by RBNZ.
