Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Defence: How many staff, if any, were employed in the Minister's departments, if any, on 1 July 2023 that worked on greenhouse gas emissions reduction efforts, categorised by whether they worked on organisational/corporate emissions reduction or nationwide emissions reduction or both?

Hon Judith Collins: On 1 July 2023, the New Zealand Defence Force had an estimated 3.4 FTE (1.47 FTE employees and 1.93 FTE contractors) working on organisational emissions reduction (including measurement and reporting, planning and coordination, project delivery, etc.). The Defence Force does not have any staff working on nationwide emissions reduction. On an annual basis the Ministry of Defence measures and reports on its emissions profile. This data is externally validated, and one Ministry employee assists in the preparation of this report, in conjunction with their other work responsibilities.
