Hon Marama Davidson to the Attorney-General: What were the total costs, if any, to the Crown of hearing cases at the Courts regarding a man who has been detained under the Intellectual Disability Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation Act for 18 years because he is considered too dangerous to release?

Hon Judith Collins: To identify all costs to the Crown for these cases would require detailed analysis and consultation with various agencies, impeding the operation of our Office, which is not in the public interest. As per Speaker’s Ruling 199/6, I do not consider it to be in the public interest to undertake an exercise to identify and collate the material requested, as it will require a significant diversion of resources that will unduly interfere with the operation of my office and related agencies. The Member might like to consider asking the relevant agencies to provide their portion of the information under the Official Information Act.
