49923 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Internal Affairs: How much Time Off In Lieu, if any, has been accrued by employees in the Minister's departments, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, as of 1 October 2025?

Hon Brooke van Velden: I am advised by the Department of Internal Affairs that they do not keep records of time off in lieu. The Classification Office has advised that there were 2.25 hours of Time Off in Lieu accrued as at 1 October 2025. The Classification office advised it typically manages fluctuations in workload and capacity via flexitime and, occasionally, overtime. The New Zealand Lotteries Commission advised that there were 572.55 hours of Time Off in Lieu accrued as at 1 October 2025. They advised that the increase in time accrued compared to the response to Written Parliamentary Question 49920 (2025) is in part related to the delivery of a significant technology project, EDGE. This project went live on 29 September 2025 and involved some additional work from key personnel in the preceding quarter. Fire and Emergency New Zealand have advised that there were 823.17 days of Time off in Lieu accrued as at 1 October 2025. This was accrued across 3,114 paid staff, amounting to average lieu days per staff member of 0.26. This does not include alternative holidays accrued on statutory days.
