49890 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Corrections: How much Time off in Lieu, if any, was accrued by employees in the Minister's departments, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, as of 1 October 2024?
Hon Mark Mitchell: Corrections employs approximately 11,000 staff across a variety of different roles, with 90 percent of Corrections’ staff working in frontline positions at many Community Corrections sites and 17 prisons across New Zealand.
I am advised that Corrections’ central HR system recorded that Corrections’ staff had accumulated 1,629.39 days of time off in lieu (TOIL) on 1 October 2024.
I am further advised that this had reduced to 1,327.28 days of TOIL accumulated on 1 October 2025.
This is also my response to WPQ 49895 (2025).
