49814 (2025). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister of Defence: Has the Minister sought advice on how the development of a domestic arms export industry aligns with New Zealand’s obligations under international humanitarian law and if so what is that advice by title and date and if not why not?
Hon Judith Collins: New Zealand is committed to being a responsible exporter, and our export control regime is an essential element of our policies to this end. Our regime, administered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, is designed to ensure that any exports of controlled goods, such as weapons and other defence-related items, are consistent with our wider policy, including our human rights and international humanitarian law obligations.
