49808 (2025). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: Does the Minister agree with the recommendation from the Amnesty International Report on climate displacement 'Navigating Injustice' that New Zealand should 'Rapidly and equitably phase out all fossil fuel use and scale up funding for climate
adaptation, mitigation, loss and damage..' and if so why and if not why not?
Rt Hon Winston Peters: New Zealand has one of the most renewable electricity sectors in the world and we are enabling more renewable energy projects. We need investment in a diverse energy mix including renewables and gas as a transitional energy source.
New Zealand is providing significant support for developing countries adaptation and mitigation priorities, particularly in the Pacific and will continue to do so. This includes NZ$20m to support Pacific Countries address and respond to climate related losses and damages.
