49806 (2025). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for Children: Does the Minister agree with the recommendation from the Amnesty International Report on climate displacement 'Navigating Injustice' that New Zealand should 'Ensure the effective enjoyment of economic, social and cultural rights – including the right to an adequate standard of living – for all people with irregular migration status in Aotearoa New Zealand.' and if so why and if not why not?.
Hon Karen Chhour: It is my expectation as Minister for Children that Oranga Tamariki will ensure the wellbeing and best interests of a child or young person will be at the centre of decision making and their rights will be respected and upheld, regardless of their immigration status.
