Hon Simon Watts: New Zealand is committed to playing its part in the global effort to reduce the impacts of climate change, including in the marine environment. We have set ambitious emissions reduction targets though our Nationally Determined Contributions towards meeting the collective goals of the Paris Agreement. We are also focused on adapting to the environmental changes happening now, including warming oceans and sea level rise. The National Adaptation Framework, launched 16 October, brings together new and existing actions to build resilience to climate change. It sets out the Government's approach to prepare for the rising risks from natural hazards, such as floods or storms. Another example of adaptation focused work is Auckland Council’s project on a shoreline adaptation plan for future proofing its 3,200-kilometres of coastline over the next 100 years.
