49284 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology: How many contractors, if any, were there in the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, as of 1 October 2024?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: As Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology, I have no responsibility for any government departments. With regard to agencies, Crown entities and any other bodies under the Science, Innovation and Technology portfolio, I am advised that entities had the following number of contractors: Callaghan Innovation – 51 Bioeconomy Science Institute – 250 Public Health and Forensic Science – 22 REANNZ – 2 Earth Sciences New Zealand – 27 I am advised that the surge in contractors at the Bioeconomy Science Institute was due to short term IT and commercialisation projects, for which no internal candidates were available.
