49185 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Internal Affairs: How many contractors, if any, were there in the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, as of 1 October 2025, and how many of them, if any, were former employees of the department that lost their roles or resigned from their roles since 1 October 2024?
Hon Brooke van Velden: Department of Internal Affairs:
I am advised that the Department of Internal Affairs (the Department) collects detailed information on contractors with a total spend exceeding $10,000 for the financial year annually, through extensive consultation across the Department. Detailed contract information is not yet available as at 1 October 2025.
Information on contractors who are former employees, specifically who lost or resigned from their roles, is only collected at the end of the financial year due to the extensive consultation required across the Department. Collating this information at present would require significant effort and divert staff from their core responsibilities.
However, I have been advised that, up to 30 June 2025, the Department did not identify any contractors who were former employees that had lost or resigned from their roles since 1 October 2024.
Office of Film and Literature Classification:
None.
Lotto New Zealand:
I am advised that Lotto New Zealand had 53 contractors employed as at 1 October 2025. This included additional temporary Customer Service staff to respond to customer enquiries.
No contractors were former employees that lost or resigned from their roles since 1 October 2024.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand:
I am advised that Fire and Emergency New Zealand had 44 FTE contractors employed as at 1 October 2025.
No contractors were former employees that lost or resigned from their roles since 1 October 2024.
