48919 (2025). Hon Willie Jackson to the Minister for Social Development and Employment: What projections, if any, have been done on the impact of rendering ineligible for Jobseeker Support approximately 4300 18- and 19-year-olds?

Hon Louise Upston: The Ministry of Social Development (the Ministry) modelling projects that approximately 4,300 18- and 19-year-olds will no longer be eligible for Jobseeker Support or the equivalent Emergency benefit in the 2027/28 financial year. Officials have provided me with advice on the potential impacts of the policy including flow on impacts to Hardship Assistance and Recoverable Assistance, and I continue to receive advice on the potential impacts as I make further decisions on the detailed policy design. The Ministry also provided a Regulatory Impact Statement alongside Cabinet proposals.
