48410 (2024). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister for Children: How many reverse uplifts, if any, has Oranga Tamariki carried out since 1 November 2023, broken down by region and ethnicity?
Hon Karen Chhour: I understand that the term ‘reverse uplift’ has publicly come to mean a child being removed from the long-term care of unrelated caregivers and returned to the care of whānau. However, I am advised that Oranga Tamariki does not use the term ‘reverse uplifts’, this is not a process that is recognised within the Oranga Tamariki Act and Oranga Tamariki do not hold structured quantifiable data on the number of cases where this occurs.
