48388 (2025). Vanushi Walters to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: What actions, if any, has the Government taken to protect the safety of any New Zealanders involved in the Gaza flotilla currently detained in Israel?

Rt Hon Winston Peters: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has made clear to Israeli authorities our expectation that detainees are treated in accordance with international law. MFAT is in regular contact with the Israeli Foreign Ministry to seek updates about the situation of the New Zealanders. Given New Zealand does not have an embassy presence in Israel, MFAT has engaged with a consular partner in Tel Aviv to meet with and provide initial consular support to New Zealanders currently detained.
