48254 (2025). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety: What assessment, if any, has been done on the potential impact of the proposed Holidays Act reforms on Māori, Pasifika, and women workers in part-time roles?
Hon Brooke van Velden: The regulatory impact statement (RIS) for the Government's policy decisions on reforming employment leave legislation (August 2025), prepared by the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment, considered impacts on different population groups. It identified that women and disabled people are overrepresented among those working part-time (who are likely to experience some reduction in sick leave entitlements compared to the status quo). However, I note that women would also disproportionately benefit from changes to annual leave payments when returning from parental leave. Based on the available data, no disproportionate impacts were identified for Māori or Pasifika employees working part-time.
