48248 (2025). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister of Education: How many secondary school teachers, if any, can expect pay progression by going up pay steps over the next three years; expressed as a percentage of the secondary school teacher workforce?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education that based on data from 2024, 24 percent of secondary teachers were eligible for pay progression in 2024. These were teachers who had not yet reached the maximum step for their qualification group. The Ministry expects the percentage to be similar in 2025 and following years, however full year payroll data is not yet available. This is also my response to written parliamentary question 48250 (2025).
