48225 (2024). Ingrid Leary to the Minister of Housing: Does she agree with Retirement Commission policy specialist Jordon King that, with regard to housing for seniors, New Zealand needs public investment to come, but we also need the state to step to the party when it comes to increasing the supply of easily assessable, smaller rental properties as well; if so, what, if anything, will she do to address this?
Hon Chris Bishop: Yes, I do agree that we need to increase the supply of easily assessable, smaller rental properties for seniors. This is why, for example, we are amending the Building Act 2004 and the resource consent system to make it easier to build granny flats or other small structures up to 60sqm, requiring only an engineer's report.
