48020 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: How many, if any, additional nurse or healthcare assistant staff members are required for Wairarapa Hospital to ensure safe staffing levels according to the Care Capacity Demand Management programme (CCDM), by service?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am assured by Health New Zealand that additional steps for staff safety is taken daily. The CCDM FTE calculation number is only one component and does not by itself provide for safe staffing. The Variance Response Management components (VRM) in conjunction with the Base Roster provides for the safe staffing of clinical areas. These additional measures include the redistribution of staff between areas of excess and need, local response teams to provide short notice assistance and the use of casual staff to supplement areas of need. All these responses are currently available in the Wairarapa.
