47395 (2025). Steve Abel to the Minister of Agriculture: What is the Minister’s opinion, if any, on whether the Government should take responsibility, if at all, for the worsening nitrate water contamination problem in Canterbury?

Hon Todd McClay: Yes, in as far as the previous Government's lack of accomplishment in this area. Councils, farmers, environmental groups, and other water users say the rules put in place over the last six years are complex, expensive, and don't work. This Government is committed to delivering better outcomes for New Zealanders.
