46745 (2024). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: What roles other than back-office, if any, have been deferred for recruitment/disestablished as part of the $43 million per annum (39% of target) cost-saving?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that necessary recruitment for frontline staff has not been deferred. However, all new recruitment to back-office roles has been paused. There is a process for hiring managers to request exemptions from this pause for critical roles. I am further advised that Corrections’ recruitment campaign for frontline prison staff is ongoing. Corrections is additionally either advertising, or has people in the recruitment pipeline, for a range of front-facing community and prison-based roles. I refer the member to my response to WPQ 24138 (2024), which provides the vacant back-office roles that have been removed from establishment, broken down by service group, region and remuneration grade. I am advised that no additional roles have been removed at this time. This is also my response to WPQ 46747 (2024).
