46720 (2024). Steve Abel to the Associate Minister of Agriculture: How, if at all, will the Government ensure that live animal exports will be subject to scientifically-based animal welfare standards under the EU-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement commitment to “implement scientifically-based animal welfare standards, including in relation to the treatment of animals on farm, during transport and at slaughter”?
Hon Andrew Hoggard: All Standards and guidelines currently in place for the export of live animals are based on available science to support the welfare of animals that are being exported. Standards are subject to public consultation and any new research that is available is able to be considered.
