46250 (2024). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: At what prison/s and in what numbers are the 20% of beds found to be poor quality located, as described in Aide Memoire 1 March 2024 B4688?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I have been advised that Corrections acknowledges the need to renew and improve accommodation in some of Corrections’ older prisons. I am further advised that the beds within the current network, as referred to in B4688, are at Christchurch Men’s Prison, Christchurch Women’s Prison, Hawke’s Bay Regional Prison, Invercargill Prison, Manawatu Prison, Rimutaka Prison, Waikeria Prison and Whanganui Prison. As at 31 July 2024, their total number was approximately 2,172 however I would expect this number may be subject to change as Corrections continually assesses its network.
