46225 (2025). Lemauga Lydia Sosene to the Minister of Internal Affairs: Does the Minister agree with New Zealand Rugby Chief Executive Mark Robinson that the Online Casino Gambling Bill “…gives online gambling preferred status over Class 4 on which community organisations rely”, if not, why not?

Hon Brooke van Velden: No. The purpose of the Bill is to regulate online casino gambling, so New Zealanders who choose to gamble online may do so safely. Currently, New Zealanders can gamble on thousands of unregulated sites. The Bill will close this gap and ensure that all gambling in New Zealand is effectively regulated.
